If you have ever come across anyone who says that there is no need for you to be trained on that particular profession of vocation, it is a ploy to perpetually keep you at the base of the job. There are many advantages of being trained and retrained and I will explicate many of them in this article just to bolster your spirit in the right direction. Training is an integral part of human resource development program in almost all organizations. Training, in fact, is the cornerstone of effective management because it makes both employers and employees more efficient and productive (Kalpana, 2018).
Training helps in the standardization of production. The methods of production are standardized through training. All trained employees follow same methods and techniques of production and hence there can be little variation in output and standards produced by different employees. By using standardized methods, the quality of output would be increased (Kalpana, 2018). This is to the overall advantage of the organization. By production here, the term is not limited to only production of goods but also services. Take for instance, in the law enforcement, when border agents are properly trained, even though they are stationed at different routes that give access to entering the country, they will still employ the same techniques in dealing with travelers. This means a person coming into the country from different routes at different times would not be taken aback at the dispensation of service of men on duty. This also ensures uniformity and respect for the concerned institution.
Furthermore, training improves employee performance. The employee who receives the necessary training is more able to perform in their job. The training will give the employee a greater understanding of their responsibilities within their role, and in turn build their confidence. This confidence will enhance their overall performance and this can only benefit the company. Employees who are competent and on top of changing industry standards help your company hold a position as a leader and strong competitor within the industry (Business Insight, 2018).
In the same vein, it ensures improved employee satisfaction and morale. The investment in training that a company makes shows employees that they are valued. The training creates a supportive workplace. Employees may gain access to training they wouldn’t have otherwise known about or sought out themselves. Employees who feel appreciated and challenged through training opportunities may feel more satisfaction toward their jobs (Business Insight, 2018). Training in this realm serves as bait to the employee in order to make them give their all to the service of the organization. When people are taught what they never imagined they could know, they are eager to display the knowledge learnt.
In addition, training increases organizational stability and flexibility. Training provides opportunities for the employees to learn and acquire skills to work in several departments in an organization. Training also results in low rate of labor turnover which means high consistency in organizations in retaining people for long period of time. Low labor turnover means high organizational stability. Flexibility is ensured because employees may be placed in several departments over a period of time as they acquire multiplicity of skills through adequate training (Kalpana, 2018).
Furthermore, training increases engagement. Engaged employees have an increased level of productivity – it’s as simple as that! Through training, you’re continuously engaging your employees and enabling them to engage back. There is two-way communication, opinions and internal workings shared. Your employees are also being kept up to date with what’s going on. This makes them more emotionally invested. They care about their role and are more willing to commit their time and energy to the company (Emma, 2018). In other words, training them is seen as making them know them see that they are also major stakeholders in the affairs of the company. It means you’re making them see that they have a stake in the organization which will encourage them to do all within their means in achieving the success of the establishment.
There is no any better way you can address internal weaknesses than organizing the right training for your employees. A lack of awareness of internal weakness is a hazardous thing within an organization. Training overcomes this as you can educate your employees on important subjects that help overcome and avoid any issues. Additionally, it creates a knowledge sharing environment. Your employees learn from management and each other’s past mistakes and wins. This ensures that recurring mistakes are reduced and your employees know the strategies for success (Emma, 2018).
Another unsung merit of training is consistency. Consistency is an indispensable ingredient to success! A robust training and development program ensures that employees have a consistent experience and background knowledge. The consistency is particularly relevant for the company’s basic policies and procedures. All employees need to be aware of the expectations and procedures within the company. Increased efficiencies in processes result in financial gain for the company (Business Insight, 2018). Consistency also helps in creating the culture and core values of the institution. What becomes a tradition is what is practiced over time. Any employer that cherishes to have excellence as their core value must invest in the knowledge of its workers. This leads us to the next point.
Sound training enhances company reputation and profile. Having a strong and successful training strategy helps to develop your employer brand and make your company a prime consideration for graduates and mid-career changes. Training also makes a company more attractive to potential new recruits who seek to improve their skills and the opportunities associated with those new skills.Training can be of any kind relevant to the work or responsibilities of the individual, and can be delivered by any appropriate method (Business Insight, 2018).
In conclusion, training benefits you by reducing supervision and direction. A trained employee knows what job he has to do and how to do that job and requires no guidance and supervision. Supervisors can devote their time to solve more important problems rather than concentrating on constant and regular supervision (Kalpana, 2018).
